JL Industries led the industry by introducing the first pre-lined fire-rated cabinets in 1991, and in 2015 eliminated the heavy gypsum wallboard used to line cabinets, replacing it with lightweight mineral wool insulation. The cabinets are UL tested to maintain one and two-hour fire rated wall barriers, in accordance with ANSI\/UL-1479 (ASTM E814 and ULC.CAN S115) for membrane penetration firestops. That matters because cutting a cabinet opening into a rated wall is a membrane penetration.
