JL Industries 2018FX2 Ambassador Fire-Rated (Fire-FX2) Semi-Recessed Fire Extinguisher Cabinet, 4 1/2" Rolled Trim, Steel

The JL Industries 2018FX2 is an Ambassador series semi-recessed fire extinguisher cabinet in steel with 4 1/2" rolled trim, built around a 12" x 27" x 7-3/4" tub. It is the Fire-FX2 fire-rated version, supplied with the fire-rated tub and flange so the cabinet can be recessed into a rated wall assembly. The Ambassador is the steel cabinet in JL Industries' architectural line. Trim, door and tub are all cold rolled steel with a white powder coat finish, and several other powder coat colors can be selected. It is the default choice where a painted steel cabinet will be finished to match the surrounding wall. Tub sizes run from 9" x 18" x 5-1/2" through 20" x 27" x 7-3/4" for two extinguishers. Trim options cover trimless recessed for 5/8" drywall or 3/4" plaster, 3/8" flat recessed, semi-recessed square and rolled edges from 1-1/4" to 4-1/2", and surface mount square edge. Fire-FX2 is available up to 2 hours.

Door style: Full Glass, Full Glass + Saf-T-Lok, Vertical Duo, Vertical Duo + Saf-T-Lok, Horizontal Duo, Horizontal Duo + Saf-T-Lok, Solid Door, Solid Door + Saf-T-Lok, Panorama Clear Polycarbonate, Panorama Clear Polycarbonate + Saf-T-Lok, Panorama Colored Acrylic, Panorama Colored Acrylic + Saf-T-Lok. Saf-T-Lok (SL-LC) is the standard lock for most locking cabinets: a theft-deterrent keyed cylinder lock used instead of a break glass lock lever, since breaking glass in a panic can injure people and create liability. The door appears locked and is, but a sharp pull breaks or bends a replaceable plastic cam and opens it. The cam is 1-5/8" x 1" x 3/32" and is replaced with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Glazing: Glazing 10 is 0.090" clear acrylic, the standard clear glazing. Glazing 15 is 1/8" bronze acrylic, for a tinted door. Glazing 16 is 1/8" gray acrylic, a neutral tint. Glazing 17 is 1/8" clear tempered glass. Glazing 18 is 1/4" clear safety glass, shown in the catalog as laminated safety. Panorama door style C uses 70 clear polycarbonate and 71 3/16" clear polycarbonate with Saf-T-Lok, while Panorama door styles P and Q use 3/16" acrylic in codes 40-53, covering black, red or white acrylic with white, black or red letters in vertical (40-43), horizontal (45-48) or ascending (50-53) orientation.

Pull / handle: Pull handles are 4" CTC in finishes matching the cabinet material, with a standard zinc pull (PUS) on most cabinets. The flush recessed pull (PRH, model suffix A) is a plastic cup-type handle, standard on all 4" trim cabinets and optional elsewhere; on a vertical duo door it moves the window to the right. The chrome lever handle (LH) is optional on cabinets without Saf-T-Lok.

Colored powder-coat finishes, magnetic catches, decorative bronze or brass pulls, Futura cast handles, wired glass and alarms are available on request — ask for a quote with your model number.

Fire-FX2 fire rating

Fire-FX2 is the fire-rated cabinet option, ordered by adding the FX2 suffix to the model number. JL Industries led the industry by introducing the first pre-lined fire-rated cabinets in 1991, and in 2015 eliminated the heavy gypsum wallboard used to line cabinets, replacing it with lightweight mineral wool insulation. The cabinets are UL tested to maintain one and two-hour fire rated wall barriers, in accordance with ANSI/UL-1479 (ASTM E814 and ULC.CAN S115) for membrane penetration firestops. That matters because cutting a cabinet opening into a rated wall is a membrane penetration. Fire-rated construction changes the rough opening, shown in brackets in every series table, and knockouts are not available on fire-rated cabinets.
