Description

The JL Industries 5734FX2 is an Embassy series trimless recessed fire extinguisher cabinet in stainless steel with trimless trim, built around a 16" x 32" x 7-3/4" tub. It is the Fire-FX2 fire-rated version, supplied with the fire-rated tub and flange so the cabinet can be recessed into a rated wall assembly. The Embassy is the decorative trimless recessed cabinet: the door sits in the wall with no surrounding trim flange. The catalog states that recessed Embassy cabinets are always ADA-compliant. Doors are available in cold rolled steel, 304 stainless steel, aluminum, brass or bronze, with two concealed hinges and a concealed handle and roller catch, or a standard pull handle if Saf-T-Lok is installed. The tub is white powder coated cold rolled steel. Embassy covers both fire extinguisher cabinets and fire department valve, hose rack and combination cabinets, in tub sizes from 10-1/2" x 24" x 5-3/4" up to 32" x 32" x 7-3/4".

Fits: Cosmic and Galaxy (20 lb mounts to back of tub), Mercury, Saturn, Grenadier, Sentinel 5 lb - 15 lb, Nebula 250-272.

Configure this cabinet

Door style: Vertical Duo, Vertical Duo + Saf-T-Lok, Solid Door, Solid Door + Saf-T-Lok. Saf-T-Lok (SL-LC) is the standard lock for most locking cabinets: a theft-deterrent keyed cylinder lock used instead of a break glass lock lever, since breaking glass in a panic can injure people and create liability. The door appears locked and is, but a sharp pull breaks or bends a replaceable plastic cam and opens it. The cam is 1-5/8" x 1" x 3/32" and is replaced with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Glazing: Glazing 10 is 0.090" clear acrylic, the standard clear glazing. Glazing 15 is 1/8" bronze acrylic, for a tinted door. Glazing 16 is 1/8" gray acrylic, a neutral tint. Glazing 17 is 1/8" clear tempered glass. Glazing 18 is 1/4" clear safety glass, shown in the catalog as laminated safety.

Pull / handle: Pull handles are 4" CTC in finishes matching the cabinet material, with a standard zinc pull (PUS); a recessed flush pull is available on request.

Colored powder-coat finishes, magnetic catches, decorative bronze or brass pulls, Futura cast handles, wired glass and alarms are available on request — ask for a quote with your model number.

ADA Standards for protruding objects specify that objects projecting from walls with leading edges between 27" and 80" above the finished floor shall protrude no more than 4" into walkways. The ADA also states the cabinet handle cannot be mounted higher than 48" AFF where only a forward approach in a wheelchair is possible. Trimless, 3/8" flat, 2-1/4" and 1-1/2" square, 3" rolled and 4" rolled trims meet the 4" rule; 4-1/2" rolled and surface mount do not.

Fire-FX2 fire rating

Fire-FX2 is the fire-rated cabinet option, ordered by adding the FX2 suffix to the model number. JL Industries led the industry by introducing the first pre-lined fire-rated cabinets in 1991, and in 2015 eliminated the heavy gypsum wallboard used to line cabinets, replacing it with lightweight mineral wool insulation. The cabinets are UL tested to maintain one and two-hour fire rated wall barriers, in accordance with ANSI/UL-1479 (ASTM E814 and ULC.CAN S115) for membrane penetration firestops. That matters because cutting a cabinet opening into a rated wall is a membrane penetration. Fire-rated construction changes the rough opening, shown in brackets in every series table, and knockouts are not available on fire-rated cabinets.

Not in a rated wall? The standard version is the 5734.
