10551-P Cato Island Chief 5 lb Red MR Safe Plastic Fire Extinguisher Cabinet

The Cato 10551-P is the Island Chief 5 lb plastic fire extinguisher cabinet in red. It is MR Safe as defined in ASTM F2503: the whole cabinet is electrically non-conductive, non-metallic and non-magnetic, so it can be used inside a magnetic resonance imaging environment. Instead of a break panel it uses a clear PETG hand pull panel, so the extinguisher comes out without breaking anything and without a tool.

In an MRI suite the extinguisher itself has to be non-magnetic too. Cato lists the non-magnetic JL Industries models against the 20 lb Island Chief; a steel cylinder extinguisher in a non-magnetic cabinet is still a projectile hazard.

Cato's own figures are the tub inside dimensions above. The Strike First and Amerex models listed are the ones whose published cylinder diameter clears the tub width and depth and whose overall height clears the tub height; the published width of a portable extinguisher includes its hose and handle, which sit beside the cylinder. Units marked tight fit have less than 1/4 inch to spare, so measure the extinguisher you actually own before ordering.

Mounting: the ADA standards for operable parts put the cabinet handle no higher than 48 inches above the finished floor, and an object whose leading edge sits between 27 and 80 inches above the floor may not project more than 4 inches into a circulation path.
