What it is
JL Industries Mercury 5 (FM05C) is a 5 lb portable fire extinguisher charged with the Halotron I clean agent and UL rated 5B:C for Class B and C fires. It stands 16-3/8" tall and 7-1/4" wide over the hose and handle, on a 4-1/4" diameter cylinder, and ships at 9.5 lb. The cylinder is drawn steel with an aluminum valve, with a visual pressure gauge and pull pin. The operating temperature range is -40°F (-40°C) to 120°F (49°C). A Mark MB818C bracket ships with it as standard. Halotron I must not be used in confined areas smaller than the nameplate indicates, in food preparation areas, or on fires involving chlorine-containing oxidizers.
The JL Industries FM05C is the Mercury 5, a 5 lb portable fire extinguisher in JL's Mercury series, charged with the Halotron I clean agent and UL rated 5B:C for Class B and C fires. It is specified for protecting sensitive electronic equipment, laboratories, museums and vehicle maintenance facilities. The agent discharges as a liquid and then quickly evaporates, leaving no residue to clean up. It is electrically non-conductive, EPA-approved and U.S. FAA-approved for use in airports.

- US Coast Guard: Approved. The owner's manual notes that USCG approval is valid only when the extinguisher is fitted with the approved marine-type bracket named on its nameplate.
- In the box: the extinguisher and a Mark MB818C mounting bracket, supplied as standard.
- Charging: Ships factory charged.
- Application limits: Halotron I should not be used in confined areas smaller than indicated on the extinguisher nameplate, in food preparation areas, or in the presence of people with cardiac problems, and never on fires involving chlorine-containing oxidizers such as pool chemicals. The manual carries the manufacturer's HCFC-123 ozone-depletion warning.

Sized to the cabinet tables in JL's fire protection catalog. JL's cabinet selection guide asks for at least 1" of clearance in height, width and depth over the extinguisher's own dimensions.
